January 31, 2018 | By Joy Chudacoff Leave a Comment

Natalie Hampton on She's Got Moxie with Joy Chudacoff

Today’s interview is the shortest interview that I’ve done so far, but it’s probably one of the most important interviews I’ll ever do.

Natalie Hampton is a 17 year-old high school student who’s got more moxie than almost anyone I know.

After suffering several years of death threats, being physically attacked, sitting alone and feeling isolated at lunch, Natalie Hampton got fed up. She created the app, Sit With Us, a digital platform that allows students to have a safe space to enjoy their lunch at school among peers who will be friendly and conversational.

Today, Sit With Us, has over 100,000 downloads in eight countries and has won numerous awards for its success.

On today’s show, Natalie shares how and why she launched her app, what it was like to create the app, and the success of Sit With Us. You’ll be amazed by this 17 year-old’s passion and heart she has put into using her app to create a safe space for kids.

Show Me the Money…

March 18, 2017 | By Joy Chudacoff Leave a Comment

The number #1 barrier to getting a business off the ground is fear and I’ve shared tips and solutions on fear of failure and how to overcome this barrier for years. Today, I want to focus on the second biggest barrier to getting a business off the ground. What do you think it is? Money. Entrepreneurs struggle with access to enough money to stay in business until it becomes profitable. According to the US Small Business Administration, at any given time, there are roughly 27 million US businesses in need of capital.

In the past, access to money to build a business has been limited by a very small pool of people that we know or come in contact with. Reaching out to friends and family is how most entrepreneurs get started or maybe you bankrolled yourself initially by using a credit card (like me!). These tactics present a very narrow path to securing the much needed capital entrepreneurs need for expansion.

Enter Crowdfunding.

Do You Have a Trusted Mentor?

May 30, 2014 | By Joy Chudacoff Leave a Comment

Do You Have a Trusted Mentor?Remember Lucy Van Pelt in the comic strip Charlie Brown? I woke this morning thinking about one of her famous lines, “I told you so, you blockhead!” Lucy was known for setting up a psychiatric booth in the neighborhood offering advice to her friends for five cents per person. Clearly she caught the entrepreneurial bug early but I'm not sure I'd want to get my business direction from her. : -) This got me thinking about how women entrepreneurs need to be cautious when seeking advice, coaching and mentoring on their road to success.

When I first had the idea to birth Smart Women Smart Solutions®, something happened that nearly convinced me to hang up my coaching hat before I got started. I was attending a party with my husband and shortly after we arrived, I ran into an old acquaintance. I could hardly contain my excitement about my new business idea. After our initial conversation, I blurted out my new big idea and guess what happened? I'll never forget it. She had this loud, high-pitched laugh that carried across the room and with a flip of the hand, she said as loudly as she could, “Ha! That will never work! Women will never pay for that. That's why we have coffee meetings and girls night out!” She turned on her heel and waltzed away leaving me there with my glass of red wine and a broken spirit. : -(
