Hold on to your seat. You’re going to hear a lot of energy and enthusiasm oozing from my guest today! While going through an extremely challenging divorce and the loss of her mother, Maria Ure, Founder & CEO of Spanish in Action, catapulted her home-based Spanish teaching business to success.

Maria realized early on that she had the gift of teaching Spanish lessons to children. Using this gift, she built her business, Spanish in Action, from three students sitting on her living room floor to a premier language studio in the upscale, family favorite and sand filled Manhattan Beach, California. She’s been featured on Univision 34, the popular LA channel for the Latin community, Ryan Seacrest’s KIISFM and she was chosen for a commercial for GoDaddy recently on how small businesses are making the pivot during the pandemic.

Today, we are going to talk about how she overcame her challenges and how she expanded into other vertical markets, and much more.

The long to-do list can actually lead you away from your goal – not closer to it. Instead of a to-do list for 2015, I invite you to start thinking about a success list. A success list is one that purposefully and mindfully has action items and tasks that are created around ONE big goal you envision for the year. Your success list should be short and sweet with items that take you closer to your goal.

As I review all the success I’ve had in my last 20+ years in business, the common theme that runs through the BIG goals I’ve achieved is a narrow focus and concentration on ONE idea. Let me give you an example. When I started my coaching business 10 years ago, I had a single focus to work with two groups of women in my Women’s Success Circles and take them through my signature system on transition.

Making a commitment (experts say seven to eight hours is preferable) to sleep can create a dramatic impact in every area of your life. In Arianna Hufffington's new book, “Thrive“, she shares a study from Harvard Medical School's Division of Sleep Medicine that lack of sleep impacts mood, ability to focus, creativity and generally affects our mental performance. Mental performance is a top requirement for entrepreneurs!

Ever notice when the topic of sleep comes up, the conversation goes something like this: “I only had four hours of sleep last night – working on a big project.” “I had so much work to do that I just couldn't get to bed before midnight!” Lack of sleep has become a status symbol. If you get too much, somehow this gets translated into: “She doesn't have enough to do-she's not busy enough.” Stop the madness. Move away from this mindset.

Smart Women Have Rituals for Success

Recently, I've had the opportunity to travel to multiple women's conferences and speak to scores of women entrepreneurs about their Big Ideas, Dreams and Goals. Questions come up on a range of topics including how to start a business to taking an existing business to the next level of success. One question that seems to have a recurring theme right now is “How do I create a successful business while maintaining work/life balance?” Great question! And one that deserves an answer with some solid tips and solutions.

Let me begin by sharing with you that I don't actually believe there is “work/life” balance. My belief is that women reflect on and declare their values that are personal to them and create a life to support those values. I place a high value on 3 areas in my life; self-care, family and supporting women to live the life they want – and deserve. Does it work perfectly? Of course not. Kids get sick, dishwasher breaks and laptops blow up! I will share that it does work 80% of the time because I've made a decision to be proactive using daily rituals to take care of myself, my family and my business.
