Hey Smart Women! Happy February—the Passion Month! In each newsletter this month, I’m going to share weekly tips on how you can create a passionate, loving relationship with the most important person in your life—You. As women, we offer our love and support to so many people and we sometimes put ourselves at the bottom of the “love” list. There are 4 areas in a woman’s life that need continual love and attention—Mind, Body, Relationships, Creativity. This week, I’ll focus on something to love and nurture your Mind.

Passion Tip for the week: Find a quiet place to sit alone and enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee or herbal tea. Sit quietly. Listen and feel each breathe you take. If you are sitting near a window, look out and find a piece of nature that interests you. Take in the beauty around you and the beauty within your soul.

Two great books to nurture your Mind: (both are quick reads with wonderful meaning)

Sue Bender – Every Day Sacred
Christina Baldwin – The Seven Whispers

I’m offering you the same Passion Tip that I plan to use myself! Many of you know that my husband Greg has been ill and in the hospital. He’s back home! WooHoo! He is feeling stronger every day. The support has been amazing. So many people have called, emailed, and stepped up to do whatever it takes to support our family. My heart is full of gratitude.

The Women’s Success Circles are back! This will be my 4th year using my proven 6-step method to help Smart Women find their Passion, their Purpose, and wake up every day to a life that they will love. And for the first time ever, I’m going to do a Success Circle Teleclass series. I have women writing to me that they would love to be a part of the Circle, but they live on the East Coast (or even Canada!) and coming to LA once a month is not part of their plan! So…I’m going to offer both a Circle over the phone to women across the country and also an in-person Circle like I’ve done for the past 4 years here in Los Angeles. Click on “Free Teleseminars” to the right for more information.

Be well,

The month of March is a very important month if you are a basketball fan. It’s “March Madness” and there are games from every team around the country participating in playoffs and finals all month. We are big basketball fans at our house. I was watching a game this week with my children and a commercial came on for the NBA. Their slogan this season is “NBA—Where Amazing Happens.” They were highlighting their best players and talking about reaching dreams and goals. It got me thinking about placing ourselves in the right environment so that “our amazing happens.”

I’m a big believer that women need the right environment to make their amazing happen. I rarely come up with my big ideas unless the environment is right for me to be creative. I like a quiet, reflective environment where I can see lots of nature—trees, flowers, grass, blue sky.

This is a big topic of discussion in my Women’s Success Circles. I invite each woman to determine where her best environment might be to create her “amazing life.” This is why I have all of my Success Circles at the Inn at Playa del Rey or work with women at the Channel Road Inn. It’s a peaceful, reflective place where women can think about what they really want to happen next in their life.

This is such a crucial part of designing our preferred lives, and we often don’t always realize how important it is. We sit down at the kitchen table to begin or complete a project and guess what happens? Distractions! Lots of them! “Mom, where’s my …..”? The phone begins to ring. We look over at the kitchen sink and see it full of dishes waiting for us. Or if we work in an office setting, it’s pretty much the same except its co-workers knocking on our door, unanswered emails, or endless meetings that require our presence. I have a client who finally began to take this seriously and she rented a small studio apartment with no phone. She goes there 2 times per week and her staff has no idea where she is. She tells me that she is creating the most amazing dreams and goals for her personal and professional life in this environment.

How about you? Do you have an environment where you can make your amazing happen? You do not have to rent a studio apartment—that‘s just one example. You can go to a park, the local library, or maybe you have a nice quiet space where you can create undisturbed. What I hear from a lot of women is “I’m not very creative.” Oh, yes you are! Every woman is full of creativity. How do I know? Well, I went through the first half of my life thinking that I wasn’t creative. Once I gave myself that creative space and the permission to really explore what I really wanted in my life, it came pouring out of me like a waterfall. It’s about designing the space in your life so that your creativity can come pouring out. You will be amazed at what can happen when you purposefully place yourself in the right environment and have the right support person there to help you navigate your journey. And you will be delighted at how little time you need once you take this step.

Let’s not allow the NBA to be the only place “where amazing happens.” I invite you to think about two things: Where your creative environment might be and when you will visit that space. Spring has arrived. It’s the perfect time to plant your amazing seeds of creativity—your dreams, goals, and big idea.

Anything is possible. Everything is waiting for you.

Recently, in one of my Women’s Success Circles, we had a conversation about the difference between a dream and a goal. The majority of the women agreed that a goal is something that is attainable while a dream is unattainable. One member said, “It’s something you think about but it would probably never happen.” While I understand the thought process, I don’t agree with it. I realized a dream within the last week and it was really through the power of intention that it became a reality.

I want women to know how strong the power of intention can be. I have been “dreaming” for more than a year about living in a community where my children could walk to school. Notice that I said the dream was about seeing my children “walk to school.” I had developed a dream, an intention about the lifestyle that I wanted for my family.

As most of you know from my article last week, our family moved (from our old house of 10 years) to a new house and guess what? We are walking to school! How did that happen? How did I make the dream come true?

Here is what I know:

When you have a dream, you have to become very intentional and focused on making it happen. Most of the time, we dream about an idea or something tangible or intangible that we would like to have happen and then we release it—why? We do not have the belief that it’s attainable. Or it’s the wrong dream for us.

This is a big part of my Women’s Success Circles. Making sure that the dream or goal that you are focusing on is your dream and not someone else’s. My work with women is about the needs and wants of the individual woman. If you verbalize that you want to make a dream or goal come true and then time passes and it doesn’t, most likely it was not truly what you wanted.

When you really embrace a dream, you set things in motion to make it happen. When my husband and I looked in the real estate section of the paper without clearly focusing on what we wanted, we would go out “looking” but nothing happened. It was just idle dreaming and frustration, feeling that our “dream” was unattainable.

Then, one day, my mother-in-law (who before retirement was s dynamo real-estate agent) said, “You need to find someone who is an expert in the area where you want to live within walking distance of the school.” After getting focused on the intention, we did find an expert in this small community where we wanted to live. Her name is Betty-Jo Tilley, another smart woman who is on her game! We became focused on this area near the school and although it did not happen overnight, it did happen.

How about you? Are you dreaming of something that would make a huge impact in your life if it were to happen? Are you intentional about the dream? Have you focused in on the steps you need to take to make it happen?

The key is making sure that the dream is truly yours and you want it—really want it. It truly does pave the way to a more meaningful life. Then you need to determine what the next steps are to realize this dream. Who will support you in this journey? You most likely will not be able to do it on your own. You need a mentor, a coach—someone who can keep you directed and navigating the dream. In my work with women, I always invite them to open up to a lot of support in order to live the life that they choose, rather than the life that is given to them.

We are in our house with tons of boxes and work ahead of us, however, I love the commute – a 4 minute walk and I’m living my dream!

Anything is possible. Everything is waiting for you.
